Spread and Impact of Ophraella communa on Common Ragweed in Croatia

This dataset that contains primary occurrence data for species.

Description

A faunistic survey conducted from July to September 2022 recorded 34 new occurrences of the ragweed leaf beetle (Ophraella communa) across ten counties in continental Croatia. The findings indicate that the species is rapidly spreading, causing significant damage to Ambrosia artemisiifolia, with potential for use in biological control efforts.

Geographic Description

34 random sites on the Croatian mainland.

Methods

Species identification

The species O. communa was identified using SMARTER (2014) and Warchałowski (2010).

Ragweed damage assessment

To determine the percentage of damage to common ragweed plants, all plants were examined in an area of 1 m2. The percentage of damage was calculated based on the destroyed leaf area of all plants present on the monitored area.

Type of content
