Historical landings from the Rijeka (Croatia) fish market between 1914 and 1932

This dataset that contains primary occurrence data for species.

Description

Historical landings from the Rijeka (currently Croatia) fish market for the period 1914-1932 were digitised from D’Ancona (1926). At the time, the Rijeka fish market was one of the most important in the area together with Trieste (currently Italy) and Venice (Italy). These fish markets collected almost all fish caught in the Northern Adriatic Sea at time.

Species were reported with their scientific names that were updated according to the modern nomenclature referring to the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS). The dataset contains landings for 95 marketed categories (1,805 records). Data is referred to local capture sea-fisheries. Marketed categories may include one or more species. Multispecies categories usually group taxonomically similar species, i.e. species of the same genus or family.
